Refresh Your Rain Gear With Nikwax
We were backpacking along the Escarpment Trail in Porcupine Mountains State Park when the sky opened up a torrent of rain began to fall. Quickly stopping we broke out the rainwear and that is when I discovered my trusty foul weather gear was beginning to “wet out” and allow some moisture in. Back home I went about trying to revitalize my rainwear to its original waterproofness.
If you are experiencing this same “wetout” your raingear could be soaking up water just because it is dirty. I have found that by simply cleaning it with Nikwax Tech Wash, and if it is fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalized just from cleaning. Simply add your rainwear and the appropriate amount of Tech Wash to clean the garments! If your rainwear is a bit older, give it the one two punch and on the first cycle wash with Tech Wash to clean, and on the second wash add TX Direct to re waterproof it. The washing machine application ensures that the treatment goes right through the garment, treating seams, tapes and cords, as well as the fabric. After treating my gear with the Nik Wax products I was surprisingly pleased with how well the water “beaded” up and I remained dry during my next adventure. The easy maintenance had given new life to my old jacket!
