Our Favorite Post Race Ride- Powell Peak Trail Big Bay

Just can’t get enough of the Upper Peninsula trails? After a long day of racing the Ore2Shore maybe there is still a bit of juice in the tank and will want to stretch the legs and enjoy some more wilderness riding. You might want to consider a new trail! That’s right we have new trails in Big Bay! The trail project was spearheaded by Powell Township, built by NTN with the support of volunteers, and funded by a grant from Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) with matching funds provided by Eagle Mine and Lundin Foundation. One of our favorite rides is the Powell Peak Trail. The climbing trail starts off wide with assorted rock features that rewards you with a panoramic view at the summit. Catch your breath and then choose optional roll downs which offers some fun, exciting challenges. Descend down to the Sweet Pine Loop with rocky gardens and a mossy wall ride. A short and sweet ride will get you back to the car and ready to head back home…..or why not stay and hit one of the other amazing loops! For your Apres ride, consider stopping by the Lumberjack Tavern, home of the infamous murder and subsequently the making of the movie Anatomy of a Murder!
