ORE2SHORE WEEK IS HERE!
One of our favorite weekends of the summer is almost here! This is the weekend the mountain bikers invade Marquette and experience our sweet trails and fun city! How cool is it to ride around town and see bikes on every car and people cycling down every street and path. Over 2000 racers will participate in this year’s event and everyone is sure to have a great big smile on their face! Down Wind will be well represented with many staff, friends and customers getting after it and having so much fun.
Don't forget we are open all week until 6pm and can take care of all of your pre-race needs.
PRE RACE
Tune Ups
There is nothing more frustrating than hitting the starting line and having problems with your bike. To avoid frustration on the trails local racers have been dropping their bikes off for the shop guys for years... and these guys get results! If you want your brakes to hit a little harder, your derailleurs to shift a little faster, or your suspension to suspend a little better you should stop in for a free estimate. You won't be disappointed.

Haven’t pulled out the bladder in a while and it’s a bit moldy? We have hydration systems and replacement bladders for both Osprey and Camelbak! From minimal systems to maximum carry capacity – we have a solution for every rider including kids! Chamoisless & Afraid?
Dang, forgot your bike shorts and thinking the “Hard Rock” is going to be a bit much without them? Don’t worry we got ya “covered”! Both men’s and women’s styles are in stock so you can be the most fashionable on the trail!
Race Advice!
Pretty much all of our employees have raced the Ore2Shore or will be this year. Need any advice or have questions regarding the course? Please stop by and talk to our staff who are more than willing to help out
DURING THE RACE
Have a Flat?
During the race if you are having any mechanical problems be sure to flag down the Down Wind Sports Mechanical Team! Todd will be riding sweep looking for anyone who may have a flat, or other mechanical problem during the race. Be sure to ride with a spare tube which will help to speed up your repair!
Where to Watch
Obviously, the start of the race is a good starting point but you may want to catch more of the action along the way. Driving to the next spot, the bridge on CR 550 overlooking the Dead River is a scenic spot to see the riders coming off the pavement and heading into the woods towards Marquette.
After your rider has come through, hop back into the car and you will have enough time to make it to the Forestville area to see the single track action.
Action shots can also be taken as riders ride single track along the Dead River basin. Park at the NTN Trailhead and walk in a bit to get the perfect position for a memorable photograph. You will still have time to head to the finish line and find a parking spot to catch a “photo finish” and celebrate with your family/friends!
AFTER THE RACE
We happen to be pretty partial to our neighbors at BlackRock’s Brewery. After crushing the race, you should stop over and enjoy a well-earned beer, eat some tasty food from local food trucks, and listen to great tunes. Maybe after a few beers you can stop by the shop and ltell us all about your race!
